Naomi and Ruth, A love story through strength and perserveriance-  Ruth was one of the daugters-in-law to Naomi who suffered a triple tradgedy by the death of her husband and two sons feel that God had abandoned her.  So Naomi, Ruth and Orpah decided to leave their home and move on to their respective lands of birth, but upon their departure Naomi attempts to send her daughters away so they do not have suffer her fate.  Orpah relents and returns to her home land while Ruth proclaims her unyeilding devotion to Naomi (Ruth 1:14-17), but the language used would also suggest a sense of something more than just a companionship (much like that of David and Jonathan), a romantic love.  "And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clave unto her."  The word clave being a past tense of cleave is used to describe a marriage or at least a pludge of love and devotion beyond a platonic relationship.  In verse 16 of the same passage Ruth follows with "Entreat me not to leave thee, and return from following after thee, for whether thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge, thy people shall be my people, thy God my God."

Ruth is basically saying that no matter what she will follow Naomi until death, sleeping where she sleeps also could be an indication of sharing a bed because in those times sharing a be was typically resevered for married couples so men would not have shared lodgings during travels.  Maybe staying the same inn but not the same room.  Adjusting for the Biblical time line their journey probably took several months since their arrival at the home of Boaz (the furture husband to Ruth) was during a harvesting barley (Pentecost).  If we were to compare grapes to grapes, the stories of David and Jonathan and Ruth and Naomi would be mirrors with the story of Ruth and Naomi being the female versions of David and Jonathan.  Friendship, love, companionship, and heartbreak.  In the case of Naomi, she lost two sons and a husband and having to possibly ingraciate herself to Boaz as he could be a cousin or some distant relative to her deceased husband, but with the strength of Ruth she managed to continued to move on.

The book of Ruth contains several messages in one story much like the rest of the Bible the main message is of true companionship, staying with someone through tragedy because not only did Naomi suffer, Ruth was suffering as well with the loss of her husband.  Emotional and mental support of two women who struggle to search for a new life Ruth leaning on Naomi for direction not a physical direction but a spritual one by saying "your God is my God" even though Naomi lost faith or at least feels like God has abandoned her but through the strength of Ruth she find her path again-the pair travel to Bethlehem.  In the field of the harvest reaping, Ruth fell to her knees weeping and asked of Boaz why he would take her in, his reply, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of her husband has been fully told to me..."  The story of good deeds and love albiet could be or is a deeper love, one of romance.  Take from it what you will but it is a demonstration of the strength and will of two women to move on through adversity.
