What is it about being part of the LGBTQ plus community that some churches or denominations find appalling, evil, sinful, or an abomination to God?
Let's take a look at how the Bible is understood and how mistranslations could affect how Christianity views the rainbow community we have to go back to the beginning, the book of Genesis. In the beginning, ok God didn't obviously create in 6 days or 60 days or even 600 days but millions of years unless Adam and Eve were riding around on dinosaurs as one writer put it, so there is the first issue with the Bible is how it is translated and understood by those that we call pastor, preacher, father, ect.
Another factor, is the contextual understanding of the time certain parts of the Bible was written not to mention shifting cultural ideas between the Jews and the Gentiles and what laws were literal and what were metaphorical. So, in the Book of Genesis, the story of creation has been mis-understood along with the rest of the Bible.
So let's skip ahead to Jacob, Joseph-the Prodical son or the Joseph and coat of many colors. The coat or cloak in Hebrew ketonet passim means the cloak of of a princess belonging to a virgin daughter of a king. There are however, debates over the actual meaning but from what I have read and researched the majority of scholars, biblical or otherwise agree that ketonet passim means cloak of a princess. Also, this idea is subject to interpretation according to how the idea is presented by modern day clergy who are resistant to change or the very idea of research and new data proving their long held traditions and beliefs wrong or just very outdated.
Another mistranslation of the bible goes back to a Greek word that is highly debated among theological scholars and secular scholars. Aresnkoitai, the word on which the idea of homosexuality became an abomination. Why? Arsen means men and koitai means bed so some translate it to be men who lie with men but a more accepted idea is that it translates to pedastry or pedophile. Also, there are other ideas that idolatry is the cause of homosexuality.
So, with these ideas in mind and writing more with supported details from the research I have been doing I will provide a deeper dive into the mis-translations and mis-understandings.
